Youth Programs

Rock climbing is an excellent sport for kids and teens. It allows them to develop fitness, confidence, and communication skills—and most importantly, have fun and make friends! Spire offers a diverse selection of youth programs year-round, ranging from after-school and homeschool programs, to day camps and week-long summer camps. These programs give young climbers of all ages and abilities the tools they need to climb safely and take their skills to the next level. For all of our classes, we have an instructor-to-climber ratio of 1:3 - 1:5.  Please call  for current class availability, registration, or more detailed information.

 

After-School Beginning Youth - Ages 5 to 12

Our After-School Beginning Youth Program utilizes a combination of instruction and games to introduce kids ages 5–12 to the fundamentals of rock climbing in a structured and fun environment.  This program only runs during the public school year.  The instructor-to-climber ratio is 1:5.

Ages:  5-8

When:  Mondays 4:00–5:30pm  •  Fridays 2:45–4:15pm

Ages:  8-12

When:  Wednesdays 4:00–5:30pm  •  Fridays 4:15–5:45pm

After-School Intermediate/Advanced Youth - Ages 11 to 16

Spire is proud to offer an After-School Intermediate/ Advanced* Youth Program. This program is designed for kids ages 11–16 with a genuine interest in the sport of rock climbing, and focuses on technique, lead climbing, bouldering, and climbing-related fitness.  This program only runs during the public school year. The instructor-to-climber ratio is 1:5.

Ages:  11-16

When:  Tuesdays and/or Thursdays 4:00–5:30pm

Beginning/Intermediate Homeschool Youth - Ages 5 to 16

Our Homeschool Youth Program is designed for kids of all experience levels. This program utilizes a combination of instruction and games to expose kids ages 5–16 to the fundamentals of rock climbing in a structured and fun environment.  Climbers are broken up into age categories.  This class is offered year-round.  Scheduling and class frequency is based on the needs of the homeschool network and varies from year to year.  If we don't have a time that works for your network schedule, please give us a call, we might be able to set up a new class for you! The instructor-to-climber ratio of this class is 1:5.

Ages:  5-16

When:  Thursdays 2:00 - 3:30pm (September - May); Thursdays 12:00 - 1:30pm (June - August)

Preschool Youth - Ages 3 to 5

The Preschool Youth Program exposes kids ages 3–5 to rock climbing in a safe and fun fashion. This program uses tons of climbing-related fun ‘n’ games to keep the kids engaged and excited. The Preschool Youth Program will get your preschooler on a rope and scaling our walls!  Staff to climber ratio 1:4.   This class is offered year-round.

Ages:  3-5

When:  Thursdays 10:00 - 11:00am (Sept - May),  Wednesdays 12:00 - 1:00pm (June - August)

Saturday Morning Youth - Ages 3 to 9

Our Saturday Morning Youth Program is broken into two age groups: preschool-aged kids, and kids ages 5–9. The program meets outside of the gym’s public hours, offering a quiet space for kids to enjoy rock climbing in a fun and safe enviornment. Classes include lots of roped climbing, as well as climbing-based games and exercises. The program is progressive, and each session builds upon skills taught in previous classes. Staff-to-climber ratio is 1:4.  This program only runs during the public school year.

Ages:  3-4 and 5-9

When:  Saturday 8:30-10:00am

-All participants under 18 must have a Spire Climbing Center waiver signed by a parent or court-appointed guardian.
-Check with the school district for information on the school bus stops at Spire.
-Limited scholarships for Spire Youth Programs can be applied for at www.touchtheskyclimbing.org
