Spire Team

Ty Morrison-Heath

Gym/Marketing Manager - Employeee since 2008

Ty began climbing on the loose choss of the Turnagin Arm outside of Anchorage, Alaska at the tender age of 13. At age 14, he got his first trad rack consisting of 7 hexes and 10 nuts and began leading every choss pile around, and in the process scaring the ever living crap out of himself and his partners. After breaking more holds than he can count, Ty moved to Bozeman in 2005 and found that climbing didn't have to feel like a life or death situation on every outing. Ty has been living in Bozeman and climbing on the Gneissic rock of Gallatin Canyon ever since. His other hobbies include 18 hour days outside, running till his legs give out, and photography.

Favorite Climbs:  Ty loves the Gallatin Canyon and anything longer than 1 pitch. Favorite climbs are like choosing favorite children, but he is partial to Solar Slab (14 pitches, 5.6 hand crack) in Red Rocks and slab climbs in the Northern Bridgers.

Aaron Bugh

Staff/Program Manager - Employee since 2012

Aaron started his climbing career on his high school’s climbing team but very quickly ventured outside to the cliffs of Colorado’s front range. Since moving to Bozeman, Aaron has been able to dedicate most of his time to climbing, training, coaching, and dreaming about climbing. Although most of his free time is spent bouldering or sport climbing on a rock somewhere, he can occasionally be spotted at a local competition.

Favorite Climbs: Tilt Shift in Red Rocks, Scarface in Smith Rocks, and Songline in Gallatin Canyon.

Alex Herbert

Customer Specialist, Routesetter - Employee since 2012

Subsisting on a diet of high-octane coffee, chicken-apple bratwurst, and Muscle Milk, Alex spends the winter season bouldering anything icicle-free, pulling plastic, and male-modeling toe-socks. In the summer months, he can be found rock grappling at the local sport crags, scrubbing lichen-covered alpine granite, and (on rare occasion) roaring his man-grunt to the heavens as he flails his way up Dockin's 5.9+s

Favorite Climbs: Deadly Nightshade and Monsters of the Deep are both five star classics at Natural Bridge -- Montana's holy grail of hard sport climbing

Reneè Freeman

Customer Specialist, Instructor - Employee since 2012

Renee moved to Bozeman four years ago, and started climbing at Spire the day she rolled into town. Renee is from Reno, Nevada and studied Spanish and Community Health Sciences while feeding her addiction for adventure sports in the Tahoe area. As an adventurous athlete, Renee got serious about climbing in 2009 when the desire to pursue a new, potentially life-threatening sport called her off the ground and onto the rock. When she's not projecting Bozeman's gnarly sport climbs, Renee shreds sweet pow and works as a ski patroller at the Yellowstone Club, runs the toughest trail races in the West, and is learning the ins and outs of Montana trad climbing.

Favorite Climbs: Renee loves any place she can get her hands on rock!

Hailey Hosken

Customer Specialist, Instructor - Employee since 2013

Hailey was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, where she cultivated a love for anything outdoors.  She started climbing in 2010 upon arriving in Bozeman and immediately was hooked on the physicality and mentality of the sport.  In addition to climbing, Hailey enjoys long distance trail running, mountain biking, nordic and alpine skiing, and spending time in the mountains. If she isn't spending time outside, you can find usually find her cuddled up  with a mug of tea or in the kitchen baking her legendary chocolate chip cookies.

Favorite Climbs: She loves long moderate trad routes and summiting desert towers in Moab, but around Montana her favorite areas are the Gallatin Canyon and the Northern Bridgers.  Her favorite route is The Mutt and Jeff at Humbug Spires.

Alexis Lahana

Customer Specialist, Instructor - Employee since 2013

Alexis started climbing in high school in her hometown of Centennial and fell in love with the outdoors. Leaving behind the Colorado rocky mountains and the 14ers, she moved to Bozeman in 2012 to attend college at MSU and study Elementary Education. Alexis started climbing at Spire from day one and began doing youth programs before moving onto other instruction and working the front desk.
In her tiny amounts of free time, Alexis spends as much time as possible outdoors, hiking around Bozeman and climbing with friends. She enjoys Netflixing, spending time with family, and long walks on the beach. Her dream is to travel all over the world, either climbing or just exploring.

Favorite climb: Beer Bong, Ten Sleep Canyon

Taylor Fragomeni

Route Setting Manager, Team Coach - Employee since 2013

Taylor got her start trad climbing in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate NY. When she moved to Bozeman in 2011, she began bouldering and sport climbing and learned how to pull on plastic in the gym. Taylor loves to climb precarious technasty slab and is notorious for testing technical prowess with her routesetting. Taylor loves that climbing presents both a mental and physical challenge and credits the sport with teaching her several lessons in trust, confidence, and risk management. On her rare days off from climbing, she can be found mountain biking, skiing, or curled up with a good book.

Favorite Climbs: The Waltz and Soft in the Middle in Gallatin Canyon; Cocaine Rodeo in Ten Sleep; Last Dance in Spearfish Canyon

Katie Williamson

Customer Specialist, Instructor - Employee since 2014

Katie started climbing in 2009 in Burlington, Vermont where she quickly learned the ins and outs of BROldering in Smuggler's Notch. Before she moved to Bozeman just over a year ago, she spent four years working at Petra Cliffs as well as for Climberism Magazine, learning all about the party scene of northeast climbing. She loves steep sport, low-ball bouldering and would one day like to try her elbows at off-widths.

Favorite Climbs: Fuzzy Undercling in Red River Gorge and PacMan in Smuggler's Notch

Carissa Aarsvold

Customer Specialist, Instructor - Employee since 2015

Carissa first fell in love with the fight against gravity while attending Camp Shamineau as a young girl in Minnesota. After her first taste of outdoor climbing, she couldn't stop thinking about the next chance she would get to climb at the local crags. During the four years she worked at Camp Shamineau she gained experience working with the camp's ropes courses, climbing wall, and ice climbing tower. She also had opportunity to assist in leading rock climbing and canoeing trips. After moving to Montana in pursuit of mountains, Carissa fell in love with multi-pitch climbing. She is excited to learn more about trad climbing and ice climbing.

Favorite Climbs: Danger High Boltage (Red Wing, MN); Dance of the Sugar Plumb Faeries (Shovel Point, MN); Panthalassa (Bozeman, MT)

Kira Engle

Customer Specialist, Instructor - Employee since 2016

Originally from Pocatello, ID, Kira has been climbing for most of her life. Kira’s parents met as climbing bums on pilgrimage to Yosemite so some of her earliest memories involve scrambling around and playing in the sand while her parents climbed at Massacre Rocks, ID. In spite of this, her love for the sport didn’t become her own until she moved to Denver, CO for college and started exploring rocks on her own impetus. After earning her BA in violin performance from the Lamont School of Music, she moved to Bozeman to pursue climbing away from the Front Range crowds. Here, Kira plays with the Bozeman Symphony and, when not trapped indoors practicing, spends as much time as she can muster outside climbing or, if it’s too cold, backcountry skiing.

Favorite climbs: Almost anything in the City of Rocks, ID; Reefer Madness (Clear Creek Canyon, CO); Bowling for Buicks (Gallatin Tower, MT)

Payson Partridge

Customer Specialist, Instructor - Employee since 2016

Payson grew up in Wisconsin, taking advantage of every possible opportunity to get outside on trails, water, rock, or snow. Similar to many others, Payson ran off to Montana for college at MSU, and is still working on a geography degree. His main interests include mountain biking, climbing, skiing, and surfing. (Yes, there is surfing in both Montana and Wisconsin.)

Favorite climbs: Soft in the Middle, Bowling for Buicks, and Prince of Darkness (Red Rocks, NV)

Kim Lemke

Customer Specialist, Instructor - Employee since 2016

Born and raised in Billings, Montana, Kim grew up loving snow, rock, and anything outdoors.  She learned to ski and backpack as soon as she could walk but didn’t find rock climbing until college.  Sitting in freshman orientation, she signed up for “Rock Climbing 101” just for fun.  She fell in love and went on to work at SteepWorld in Billings and spend countless hours on the sandstone bluffs surrounding the city.   Coming to Bozeman in 2015 for the outdoor recreation that it provides, she now is stoked to keep exploring the local crags and play on some ice this winter.

Favorite Climbs: Brown Sugar (Billings, MT), Beer Bong (Ten Sleep Canyon)
